Hathaway Brown School, Shaker Hts., Ohio
Return
Hathaway Brown School has installed an enterprise Novell 4.1 Network connecting three file servers under one context "HB"; the Admin, Lib, and Class server. These servers are connected by a fiber-optic backbone which extends the entire school, connecting four major hub locations. Level 5 wiring is patch paneled into the hubs and is strung in home-runs to the offices and classrooms. Connected to the HB enterprise are PCs running Windows 3.1, Dos 6.2, Windows 95, together with Macintosh systems. Because of the network directory services (NDS), all logged in users are able to see the file structures of the dissimilar platforms.
The Admin file server holds all of the financial school data; the Lib server connects the resource materials to all users on the network by means of a CD Rom tower; and the Class server connects Macintosh, and PCs together. Regardless of operating system type, e-mail functions are available across the network on a hot-key access. Backups are done from one location across the network, and can back up users workstations if necessary. A fax server is connected to the Ethernet lines and is available to all users attached to the network. Internet connectivity is in place using net modems, and a web server which attaches the wide-area mail and info to the intranet mail service. Printers can be accessed by all users regardless of operating system type as long as the systems are connected to the Ethernet lines and the HB context. Users can call into the Hathaway Brown network in a Windows 95 mode as if they were actually sitting at a workstation on the network. The Hathaway Brown School network in every sense of the word is connected locally and globally. Visit Hathaway Brown's Website or Return.
