Stow City Schools, Stow, Ohio
Return
Stow City Schools network consists of a fiber-optic which extends the length of the school currently connecting the school library and the business applications lab. The network has 59 active connections and runs off the fiber-optic backbone through Fiber-Optic and 10-Base-T hubs using Level 5 wiring. The protocol is ethernet with a star-ring topology. A throughput of 100 MBs is realized on the backbone with an effective throughput of 10 MBs on the Level 5 wiring. A Pentium 90 EISA/VESA file server with 32 MB of RAM and a 2 GB hard drive operates on Novell NetWare 3.12. An incoming and outgoing communication link to internet and administrative access is provided in the library area. A CD ROM Server is connected to the network and can be accessed from any location on the network. This server can also be connected to any 10-Base-T jack on the network. There are presently 4 CDs that can be accessed simultaneously by users on the network.
The network workstations are 486 DX 33 with 8 MB of RAM and 212 MB hard drive with a 16 bit NIC connected to the network. These workstations can access all of the application software in both DOS and Windows versions, can connect to any of the CDs, and can access E-mail throughout the high school. Future plans for Stow include WAN and LAN connections through the entire school district, business office, and A-site adding another file server, additional fiber-optic lines and Level 5 wiring, and over 120 more workstations and multimedia equipment.
